Make a little heart art with the kids for Valentine's Day. Get your kid's creative juices flowing with easy craft projects like a Paper Heart Chain, Heart Mobile, and, of course, handmade Valentine's Day cards.

Heart Pillow Boxes
Pillow boxes get their name from their "pillow" shape as opposed to a gift one leaves on a pillow like chocolates in a hotel. These boxes are popular wedding favor containers that can easily be used and decorated for any occasion.

To make this craft:
- Purchase a pack of pillow boxes online or from a craft store.
- Pick up decorations for the boxes such as heart foam shapes, sequins, or ribbon.
- Glue decorations on to the box. Allow glue to dry.
- Fill boxes with conversation hearts or small candies and give to your Valentine.

Button Heart Art
Buttons are about as crafty as it gets and kids love them.

To make this craft:
- Purchase an assortment of red, pink and white buttons from a craft or sewing store.
- Supply your child with the buttons, paper and glue.
- Suggest that they make a heart shape using the buttons and watch the creativity flow.
- Try this project by applying the buttons to felt using fabric glue and then cut out the heart as an appliqué.

Paper Heart Chain
What is it about cut out paper snowflakes, doll chains, or linking hearts that kids find so fascinating? It's the thrill of making a decoration with a mere pair of scissors and paper that looks so intricate.

To make this craft:
- Fold red or Valentine-themed paper in a fan fold that results in a 2-inch wide folded strip.
- Cut a heart shape out of the folded strip leaving about 1/2-inch along the edges or sides of the heart uncut. To do this, cut the bottom point of the heart. Then move the scissor up ½-inch along each edge and cut the top part of the heart.
- Unfold your artwork to reveal a pretty paper heart chain.

Heart Mobile
There's something so precious about a mobile made by a child. I guess it's the sway of the ornaments that a child has crafted and hung that makes it completely special for any occasion.

To make this craft:
- Decide what kind of mobile you want to make and purchase the ornaments, string, and hanger for the artwork. Here are a few ideas:
- Shells with painted hearts dangling from twine on a driftwood hanger.
- Foam or paper cut out hearts hanging from ribbon on a wire clothes hanger.
- Jewelry heart charms or pendants purchased from a craft store strung on to jewelry wire hanging from a painted wood dowel or nice piece of ironwork.

Handmade Valentines
Above all else, my gift of choice on Valentine's Day is a handcrafted card from my children.

To make this craft:
- Purchase a pack of blank cards and matching envelopes.
- Choose Valentine-themed paper, stickers, doilies, and pretty embellishments that the kids can use to decorate the card.
- Include glue-stick, double-stick tape and any adhesive they might need.
- Supply the little crafters with heart-shaped paper punches, decorative edge scissors, and other unique paper art tools from the craft store.
- Make the cards with them and have a lovely afternoon with your kids.
