Cast of “True Blood”

Why: Because this small-screen vampire phenomenon is giving Edward and Co. a run for their money. Start practicing your Louisiana accent now -- Sooo-kie!

How Many People You'll Need: 2 (though you could expand to the rest of the cast for more)

What You'll Need: For Sookie: White t-shirt (with green Merlotte's emblem drawn on with fabric paint), green apron, black shorts, blond wig or ponytail. For Bill: Green button- up, jeans, inexpensive vampire teeth, bottles of faux blood

Beyonce “Single Ladies“ Gals

Why: Because from Joe Jonas to Justin Timberlake, everyone wants to get in on the leotard-dancing good times. Prove you’re an empowered woman, or a very empowered man, by dressing up as the cast from this mega-hit video.

How Many People: 3

What You'll Need: Black leotard, stilettos, serious hair, a crazy metallic glove for your Beyonce to wear

Kanye West and Taylor Swift

Why: Because even your mom is making jokes that start with "I'mma let you finish…" Turn Kanye's impromptu VMA outburst into an au currant costume.

How Many People: 2

What You'll Need: For Kanye: Black tight shirt, jeans, huge sunglasses, microphone, bad attitude. For Taylor Swift: Silver dress, Moon Man Award (spray paint a cheap Bud Lightyear action figure silver), expression of complete confusion

Cast of The Twilight Saga: “New Moon“  

Why: Twihards haven't lost any steam, and with the “Twilight“ sequel opening on November 20, the cast expands to include Bella's (Kristen Stewart) new love interest and the menacing Volturi, the governing body of vampires. But most importantly it features exactly twice the amount of gratuitous shirtless men

How Many People: at least 3 (add the Volturi to the mix for more)

What you'll need: For Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson): Crazy hair or wig, body glitter, vampire teeth, no shirt. For Jacob Black (Taylor Lautner): Black ponytail wig, no shirt, jeans, werewolf hat. Bella Swan (Stewart): rain jacket, jeans, fake bloody finger, Team Edward or Jacob shirt. For the Volturi: Capes, red contacts.

“Weekend at Bernie’s“

Why: Because the late-80s classic will have you and your buds rocking uber-comfortable Hawaiian garb all night, and dragging one of your lifeless friends around – a perfect role for your friend who drinks too much!

What You'll Need: For Richard Parker (Jonathan Silverman): Plaid shorts, jean shirt, boat shoes. For Larry Wilson (Andrew McCarthy): Plaid shorts, yellow t-shirt, Hawaiian shirt, sneakers. For Bernie: Khaki pants, long sleeve striped shirt, blue oxford, small round sunglasses, fake moustache.

Why: The King of Pop is always a popular costume choice, but with his passing this year expect to see a host of his many incarnations on the streets.

What you'll need: When it comes to Michael Jackson costumes, the possibilities are endless, but we'd recommend harking back to his glory days

Lady Gaga

Why: This year's breakthrough artist has had a string of inescapable hits, and a barrage of memorably ridiculous outfits

What You'll Need: Kermit the Frog Gaga: Lady Gaga is a big Muppets fan, as evidenced by bringing Kermit to the MTV Video Music Awards as her date and the interviews she’s conducted in a Kermit suit. You’ll need a few stuffed Muppets pinned to your clothes (save one Kermit head to don in your hair) and a short blonde wig

Poker Face/Classic Gaga: Long blonde or white wig, silver shiny top, grey racing gloves, loads of jewelry, skin jewels (available at costume shops or beauty supply stores) worn under one eye

VMA Gaga: For the outfit: Invest in lots of red lace for this getup. Wrap yourself in as much of the material as possible, including your face. Make sure to carry around a phony Moon Man and proclaim that it’s “For God and the Gays!”

Bubbles Gaga: In performances and on the cover of “Rolling Stone“, Gaga has donned a wardrobe of tiny bubbles. For the outfit: a nude leotard, loads of clear plastic ornaments (affix to your body with pins and string), curly blonde wig

Roller Derby Gals (inspired by Drew Barrymore's “Whip It“)

Why: "Whip It,” out October 2 and starring last year’s “It” girl Ellen Page and everyone’s favorite SNL star Kristen Wiig, is this year’s ode to girl power. Bonus: you'll be able to motor between parties twice as fast.

How Many People: As many as you like (girls preferably!)

What You'll Need: Skates, helmets and pads (keep it safe), girl scout-style uniforms.

Jon and Kate Plus 8

Why: TLC may have just announced that there will no longer be a “Jon” in “Jon and Kate Plus 8,” but that doesn’t mean you can’t include this ATV-drivin’, college co-ed lovin’ reality dad from you group costume.

How Many People: 10

What You'll Need: For Kate: Crazy blonde wig, conservative mom clothes, bare feet or wedge flip-flops, ill-temper. For Jon: Ed Hardy T-shirt, baggy jeans, diamond stud earrings, sunglasses. For the kids: You'll need 5 girls and 3 boys -- one boy must wear glasses to be Aadan. Make sure the “kids” wear Crocs, and have everyone don name tags to drive the point home.

Cast of “Glee“

Why: This runaway hit sitcom has somehow managed to make A cappella cool, and turns pretty much any popular song into a fantastic trifle of a spoof).

How Many People: 7

What You'll Need: For Will Schuester: jeans, oxford shirt, skinny tie, earnest outlook. For Glee members: jeans, red tops (tank top, t-shirt, frilly prom-style shirt), wheelchair (for Artie). For Sue Sylvester: Track suit, whistle, megaphone. Ability to launch into unaccompanied versions of "Don't Stop Believin" and "Rehab" is a must.

“Where the Wild Things Are“

Why: With the Spike Jonze adaptation of this much-adored children's book opening October 16, everyone is going to want to go wild on Halloween.

How Many People: 2 (or more)

What You'll Need: For Max: White Wolf costume (or any animal with a long tail), gold paper crown. For wild things: Any costume with lots of fur (to be the main thing, don a striped t-shirt over your costume it to give the illusion of striped fur), horns, uncut toenails.
